Hi, thanks for visiting.
This is my first blog post, so I’m still trying to find my feet. I created this site partly to learn how to use Wix, so that I can create a website for a basketball club. I’ve restrained myself from putting an “under construction” graphic anywhere on the site, as we used to do in the olden days.
I think this is also healthier than reading / posting / scrolling on social media. Eventually, I’ll leave X, but you can find me there at @mattalsowrites. I’m much happier on BlueSky, where I am @matt-also-writes.com, so if you have and account there, please follow me. I’m interested in writing, and I think posting here regularly will help to improve my writing skills, as well as soothing my imposter syndrome. I have published a few short stories on Amazon Kindle, and I remember well how nervous I was at allowing strangers to read my writing.
I’m not sure exactly what I’ll blog about, but it will probably be a mixture of:
General life events, including my health and career - more on that in the next post. I’m a software developer, although I’m not employed at the moment.
Posts about the writing process. I’m currently still trying to write a novel, so I can document progress on that. This might include books, tutorials, and such that I’ve found useful.
Reviews, for books, audiobooks, movies, and television programs.
Mental health and meditation.
Basketball, in particular the Super League, and Caledonia Gladiators.
Other random nonsense.
It should be fun, and I’d hope that some people will find my posts interesting enough to visit again.
I’ve had to spend some money to set this site up, buy the domain etc., but I think it will be worth it. I think it’s better to have a site with your own domain name, rather than a free site, and I’ve paid to have the hosting and domain for two years. We’ll see how it has gone after that, and if I think it’s worth renewing.
If you want to help with costs, there should be a link to Ko-Fi right at the bottom of the site. I didn’t want it to be too intrusive, so you might have to scroll down quite a lot to even see it. I don’t even know if it works, so I’ll find out when/if someone donates. Although it mentions buying me a coffee, and I have a caffeine addiction, I can’t promise to buy coffee with any donated money.
That’s pretty much it as far as this blog post goes. I’m going to post at least once per week, and my next post will cover my current situation, regarding health and career.
If you’ve read this far, thanks. It means a lot.
Updated 14th November 2024, to amend my BlueSky handle.
